This is the time of year that we have an opportunity to focus on different priorities. Despite how hectic the first 11 months of the year may seem, the holiday season and upcoming New Year cause all of us to behave a little differently. Human nature drives us to look at all the people that have helped us throughout the year or those we have overlooked that are important in our lives.
This special holiday season provides an opportunity to say ‘thank you’ with some type of gesture like a holiday card, small gift, party, or otherwise. The saying ‘a little goes a long way’ holds very true. Friends, family, customers and vendors all appreciate being remembered at this time of year. This holds true for personal life and in business.
Do we all take advantage of this annual opportunity? Do we prepare and plan effectively so we maximize our efforts?
Coinciding with the holiday season is the ending of the calendar year. This event stimulates a different set of behaviors in individuals and businesses. Anxiety is one of those feelings, ‘the year is ending and I haven’t done everything I should have’. Many people will refocus on a neglected commitment, so come January 1st they are not remorseful for not keeping a stated pledge at the beginning of the year. Others are more confident based on the success that has occurred during the past year and they look forward to the New Year optimistically and anxiously plan for more success in the future.
I consider the end of year a catalyst and an opportunity for change. We can start an overlooked initiative without explaining our motives. We will never be judged negatively for developing a plan or organizing better for the upcoming New Year. We can reach out to anyone we haven’t talked to all year and wish them well and make a commitment to communicate more in the future. We can thank all of those who have made a difference in our lives. We must constantly challenge ourselves to do more with the opportunities we are have and share our gratitude for our progress in life.
Happy Holidays and THANK YOU to all our family, friends, customers, vendors, partners and everyone that contributes to our success.

Diane’s Tips & Tricks
One of the reports external auditors ask for is a listing of all general journal entries posted for the year, who posted them and when they were posted, primarily to see if entries were posted during non-business hours. So, how do we satisfy the audit requirements? Use the Account Transactions SmartList, filter for Financial Transactions, and add the following Columns — User Who Posted- Originating Posted Date
The ‘User Who Posted’ field, of course, lists the user ID who posted the transaction. The ‘Originating Posted Date’ reflects the system date on the user’s workstation on the date the transaction was posted. This isn’t quite as good as a date/time stamp because if a user really wants to game the system, they can change the system date on their PC or the GP user date before posting the transaction, thereby reflecting a bogus posting date.
The ‘Reference’ field reflects the general journal description, which is usually meaningful in describing why an entry was made. (By the way, use the Note fields to provide detailed support for your journal entries!)
When you drill into a record in SmartList, you’re taken to a default window. For instance, in Receivings Transactions, the default GoTo window is Receivings Transaction Entry. But what if you want the default GoTo to be a different window? Say Payables Transaction Inquiry – Vendor for example. Here’s how to do it. On the Administration page go to Smartlist Options.
Select ‘Receivings Transactions’ in the Category drop down list and then ‘Vendor Inquiry’ in the Default GoTo drop down list. Click ‘OK’ to save the changes.
Now when you drill into a Receivings Transaction record, the Payables Transaction Inquiry – Vendor window opens, filtered for the vendor in the Receivings Transaction.
While you’re in the SmartList Options window, notice the other default settings you can change to better suit your needs.
Did you know that when adding columns to a SmartList Favorite you can search the fields by type? For example, if you know you are looking for a Currency value, why not look only at the currency fields.
Open the Columns list to select new columns for the Smartlist. Click on the Type column label and all of the data columns will be sorted by type. Scroll down to the desired type and look for your field.
Huge news for CRM users! Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 is now live, worldwide! We are very excited about the newest version of Dynamics CRM because Microsoft has enhanced the software in a number of ways that reflect their ongoing goal of providing the perfect business software. Below are some of the new Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 enhancements we are excited about:The New User Experience-Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 has been designed with an intuitive new interface that redefines the word “productivity”. Designed to be easy to understand and navigate, the layout keeps everything clean and clutter-free, while maintaining easy access to all the tools and capabilities that users need in a timely manner. Drop down boxes at the top of the screen allow constant access to the different areas of Dynamics CRM, making it easy to quickly perform tasks on the fly. Additionally a Quick Create button has been added to allow the creation of records from anywhere within Dynamics CRM!New Social Capabilities-
The modern world of marketing keeps introducing interesting trends such as the use of social media for optimizing marketing efforts. Dynamics CRM is a leader in this innovation, as it is one of the first CRM applications to integrate with social media tools like Yammer, MarketingPilot and NetBreeze.
Yammer is a social network for enterprises that allows businesses to collaborate and communicate with people inside and outside of their organization. Microsoft has acquired Yammer and integrated it into Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013, creating a powerful collaboration advantage for users. Access to Yammer feeds within the context of Dynamics CRM allows companies to communicate and collaborate across their entire ecosystem in a way that’s fast, relevant, and available to them when they’re working. Partners, suppliers, etc., can remain up-to-date with each other’s news, activities, insights, and ideas in a collective manner that keeps all parties on the same page.
MarketingPilot is an impressively powerful, tightly integrated marketing solution that was acquired by Microsoft in 2012. It gives you up-to-date tools for marketing resource management, campaign management, media planning & buying, budgeting, and more. The integration of MarketingPilot with Dynamics CRM 2013 gives businesses a complete integrated marketing management (IMM) solution that provides insight into campaign ROI’s and performance like they’ve never seen.
NetBreeze was recently acquired by Microsoft to help businesses analyze and act on market intelligence from social conversations. With NetBreeze, users can monitor sentiment and analyze trends to focus their communications and drive sales. The integration of NetBreeze with Dynamics CRM 2013 gives users the ability to monitor information from a wide array of social media channels such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, as well as 6,000 online news websites, 18 million blogs, and 500,000 message boards, all from within the context of the software they use to work.
Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 contains an amazing new feature that visually guides users through business processes so they can easily see what has been completed, where they are in the process, and what still needs to be done. Predefined and configurable processes help drive employee effectiveness as each stage is clearly outlined, with recommended steps to complete the process. As users move backward or forward through the process, they will be presented with a new list of suggested steps accordingly.
Processes within Dynamics CRM are highly configurable. Role-specific process assignments means when a user is assigned a process, they can switch from the default process to a process customized to better fit their role. Companies can customize their software processes to perfectly match the actual business processes they have in place. They can also easily package, export, and import the processes between systems.
A huge trend in CRM, and business applications in general, is the ability to access them from anywhere, anytime, via a mobile device. This trend isn’t going anywhere, which is great news for Dynamics CRM 2013 users, as Microsoft will be releasing a mobile app that is designed specifically for ease-of-use with mobile devices.
Mobile access to your system means you can arrive prepared for any appointment, and allows you to update your notes, records, and tasks while they are fresh in your mind. Using Dynamics CRM on your iPad or Windows 8 tablet, you’ll notice a seamless experience that is consistent across all your devices, driving productivity regardless of what device you’re using.
Phone applications for Dynamics CRM 2013 will be released in the near future that are touch-screen-optimized, so you can visually access all the areas of Dynamics CRM without losing the powerful capabilities that you need.
We are very impressed with Microsoft’s ability to deliver, time and time again, new versions of their software that address all the best areas of improvement with relevant on-point enhancements. In fact, their commitment to software development, innovation, and improvement is something unmatched by competitors, and, in my opinion, a contributing factor in the huge success of their applications.
We think you’ll like what Microsoft has been up to, and we highly encourage you to see for yourself. Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 is a beacon of forward-looking innovations, and we have complete faith in its ability to add value to your business.
