Understanding Microsoft and the role of the Partner
A few facts about Microsoft: Reported sales of $83B, income of $22B, market cap of $325B. Microsoft is spending 9 billion a year on R&D and they are in it to win it.
As a Microsoft Gold partner, we are constantly required to re-align messaging, marketing, product offering and service delivery readiness due to Microsoft product strategy shifts. These days, the big words every Microsoft employee has added to the daily vocabulary are: devices, services and cloud.

If you dig deeper into Products you will find Windows, Office, Devices, Services, Servers & Cloud, Developers & IT Pros, and Business and Enterprise (where Dynamics lives).
The Services messaging is a big shift for Microsoft over the past several years. This alignment is in step with Cloud-based applications, servers and more as those are all consumed as services by users. Furthermore, Microsoft has invested in building teams of solution specialists in every major metropolitan area in the US including St. Louis.
Microsoft plans to directly service enterprise customer opportunities through their consulting teams which may account for 20% of that market share. Microsoft then plans for Global Systems Integrators to service 50% or so of the enterprise space. Everything else, the remaining enterprise customers and all small and mid-market customers are serviced by Microsoft partners. As a Microsoft partner we are the front line of service and licensing.
There are many different types and levels of Microsoft partners in the US and internationally. All partners must focus on one or more segments of the Microsoft offering and gain a Microsoft competency. Competencies could be Dynamics ERP (AX, GP, NAV, SL), Dynamics CRM, Mobility, Platform, Security, Hosting, Learning, Communications, etc. For each competency, partners have to meet specific criteria. Gold level competency partners are differentiated from other partners by having six (6) or more certified staff members, specific numbers of customer additions, references, and license revenue as well as participate in customer satisfaction surveys, and meet several other requirements. This Gold indicator is designed by Microsoft as a method for customers to select a partner that has proved the ability to manage and deliver the solution to many customers’ satisfaction.

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 Expected in December!
In accordance with its recently laid out product development cycle, Microsoft has announced the releases of two updated versions of Microsoft Dynamics GP in 2014! The first release, which will be released sometime in May, will be called Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013R2. This release will improve key areas such as workflow and Identity Management, and will also introduce the first companion apps for Dynamics GP! The second release is estimated to occur in December, and will be called Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015. This major release will bring in more functionality, more workflow, more apps, and a service-based architecture which will be the foundation for the further development of Microsoft Dynamics GP. Here are some enhancements that will be available in the GP 2013R2 release.Azure Backups- Users will have the ability to store quick and easy backups for simplified data security. According to Mariano Gomez, a Microsoft Dynamics MVP, “With Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013, now you have the ability to click only one button and have your backups stored directly into the Microsoft Azure storage infrastructure.”New Inquiry Window- The improved inquiry window in Dynamics GP now has the checkbook included as well, so users can see everything from one place. Users working with cash receipts now have an easy way to see what checkbook they went into!
Improvements for Emailing Documents- According to Mark Polino, a Microsoft Dynamics MVP, “One of the new features is that you can have a different email address for the different documents. So you can send quotes to one person, and you can send invoices to another.” In the past, documents had to be sent from one outgoing email address.
Fiscal Year Reverse- Users can now reverse their fiscal years to make edits or record transactions as necessary to help with audits and compliance. “Before you had to use Microsoft Services, now you have the ability to actually reverse your fiscal years, open them as you need, go back as many years as you need and record your transactions…depending on what your auditors suggested,” says Gomez.
Improved SmartList Navigation Pane- With this simple improvement, the SmartList navigation pane will now disappear for you after you’ve clicked your desired SmartList. You can also increase and decrease the width of the SmartList navigation pane to your desired size.
New Native Workflow Engine-The native workflow engine in Dynamics GP 2013 R2 will no longer rely on a SharePoint engine for execution, as it has in the past. The new native workflow architecture will allow workflows to be managed from the web client and eventually be used for social collaboration and notifications.
Microsoft Dynamics CRM Spring 2014 Wave

For $125 per user/month, this app can be used as a standalone product without the full commitment to Microsoft Dynamics CRM licensing. This new set of features is included in Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Enterprise at no additional charge.
Unified Service Desk- This new application enables organizations with high call volume, such as call centers, to handle multiple interactions simultaneously, automate repetitive tasks, and display scripts to help organizations deliver consistent service. This is also included in Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Enterprise at no additional charge.
Parature- Microsoft Dynamics CRM’s new integration with Parature enhances your customer care functionality with mobile-access knowledge bases, live chat, survey and feedback systems, and social monitoring and response capabilities.
